Grace's glasses debut

We picked up Grace's new glasses on Saturday. It has been an adventure in getting her to keep them on and for them to stay on. They are a bit big, but hopefully she will grow quickly. There is an elastic strap that goes around her head in an effort to keep them on. She also doesn't have much of a nose to keep them on so that makes it difficult too. She does look pretty darn cute though.

We will continue to work with her to keep them on and adjust to them. Here is hoping they work! I so wish she could say yes mom I can see out of my right eye now, but alas she just fusses and tears them off. She will get used to them the doctor assures me - here is hoping she does soon!

In other news she continues to get better with her sitting on her own and is eating applesauce now and loving it - as long as its cold. Here are some more fun pictures for your enjoyment.

6 Month Stats

14 pounds 9 ounces - 25th percentile
26.5 inches long - 75th percentile

All looked good at Grace's 6 month check up today. She is growing very fast and is somehow a tall skinny child. She probably gets that from her daddy and from her Grandpa Phil who both grew up tall and skinny. She had to get shots today and her flu shot which never makes her happy. It is not fun seeing her lose it when they stick her, but I remind myself it is for her health. Otherwise the appointment was uneventful and we mostly talked about baby food. We can now start giving Grace 2 meals a day. Should be fun!

Happy 6 Month Birthday Grace!

January 15th marked Grace's 6 month birthday. It is hard to believe that half a year has gone (flown) by. She is such a joy to be around these days as she wants to check everything out and her smiles melt our hearts every time. My favorite part of the day is lying in bed listening to her talk in her crib in the morning and then going to get her and see the biggest smile on her face that someone has come to see her and rescue her out of her crib. It is one the best parts of being a mom. Here is her monthly photo with Pooh.

And here are some photos of her general cuteness.

Tomorrow will be Grace's 6 month check up and some more shots. It will be interesting to see what she is weighing these days since I swear every time I pick her up she feels like she has gained a pound. She is still loving cereal and food time. She LOVES sweet potatoes and hates green beans. So so far she loves orange food. :o) Hopefully she will like something of a different color soon.

And finally, here is the link to her 6 month photos. There are some pretty cute ones. Let us know which ones you like.

Finally good news!

Grace's exam under anesthesia yesterday went great. It truly was just an exam for once. Dr. Oliver saw some minor scarring on her retina, but not enough to bother messing with right now and her retina is still attached which was all great news. We weren't sure what to do with ourselves leaving the hospital with good news. So, the next step is glasses. I took Grace and we went and picked out some today - light pink of course since most of her wardrobe is pink after all. And now we get a break from eye doctors until next month. Very exciting!

Next up for Grace is her 6 month check up next week. She is growing like crazy lately and I swear every time I pick her up she has gained a pound so it will be fun to see what she weighs next week.

Have a great day!

Growing so Fast!

This weekend we had Grace's 6 month photos taken. She is just starting to be able to sit up on her own. She can last about 30-60 seconds before she falls foward, back or side to side, but she is getting it more and more. It is pretty amazing to see her sitting up. She is getting such a personality and is so much fun right now. I told Brian this weekend that I love this age. She is discovering everything and is becoming more vocal about what she wants and is just changing so fast that it is fun to see. As soon as I have the link to the 6 month photos I will post it. There are some pretty cute ones.

We started to try green beans this week, but Grace isn't really into them. The faces she makes are priceless and quite funny. I tried the green beans for two days and she is not having them. So we know she likes the cereal and carrots so far. We will have to try something else new now that we know green beans are out for now. We are also discovering that eating in front of her or going out to eat is getting harder as now she wants the food we are eating. She LOVES cereal time. Now if we could just get her to take formula at home. Thankfully she will finally drink it at daycare since my milk supply is not able to keep up with her while I am at work, but we can't seem to get her to take it at home yet. Hopefully she will soon.

Today is Grace's 5th surgery in her short little life. Dr. Oliver will be going in to look around and see if the retina is still attached and check on some other things. We are hoping it is just a look and see, but if he does find a new problem he will fix it today. Think of Grace this afternoon as we wait to hear how she does. Pending how this surgery goes we will next be looking into getting her glasses. Looks like Dr. Braverman (her normal eye doctor and the one we will see more often after the retina issues are fixed that Dr. Oliver specializes in) has decided that glasses will be a better option than a contact. Which in the full scheme of things it will be easier for us parents not to have to figure out how to get that contact in and out. Everyone assures me she will look super cute with her glasses, but I all the same felt a little sad that she needs them and brought back my mommy guilt that she has to go through this all. I would gladly take her eye problem from her anyday, but alas we were given this challenge and will face it and she will of course be the cutest baby ever with glasses.

I will post an update on how surgery went either later tonight or tomorrow depending on how late we are at the hospital. Have a great week!

Happy New Year!

Grace enjoyed her first Christmas getting lots of presents from santa and everyone else in her life. She has lots of new toys to play with and has been having fun doing her best to get every last one in her mouth. That is her thing these days - to chew on everything! I am sure some teeth will be sprouting in a matter of weeks.

Here she is with her santa hat.

Opening a present

Checking out a new toy from Grandma & Grandpa Olson

Grace loving her new outfit from Great Aunty Maryann

Santa was good to  mom and dad too. Here is Brian very excited about his new socks. :o)

And I was thrilled with the beautiful Coach purse my husband got for me and picked out on his own. He is one great santa as far as I am concerned. He spoiled me as usual and gave me a card that meant the world to me with his kind words. I hit the jackpot with this man. And I am pretty sure Grace liked the purse too as she was ready to eat it - lol.

Huckleberry even got in on the action from Santa with a big candy cane bone. He enjoyed it a great deal and surprisingly it took him about a week to finish which is unlike him since he finishes treats in record time usually.

After we opened presents at home we headed up to Grandma Gina's (GG) in Fort Collins for a Christmas celebration and to see Aunty K and her boyfriend Mark. There were  no shortage of presents at GG's for Grace. Here she is surrounded, admiring the loot.

Here Grace is Christmas Day in her Christmas dress.

Hanging out with GG.

The Wadas (and a couple of Olson) women.

And another family shot.

It was a wonderful first Christmas with Grace and the celebrating continues into this weekend with a visit from Nana. Here they are having some fun.

In other news, we have started to give Grace cereal and now this week carrots. She loves dinner time. She can't get enough of the cereal and carrots this week.

Grace is growing fast and filling out. It is hard to believe she is already eating something other than milk. I will be interested to see what she weighs come mid-January when we take her in for her 6 month check up.

Coming up this week we will get her 6 month photos done and get ready for our next surgery. Grace will have her exam under anestesia on January 11th. This is a chance for Dr. Oliver to check her and make sure the retina is still attached and check for any new scar tissue. With any luck the doctor will just be looking and it will be a short surgery, but if need be he will fix any new issue he sees. Grace has been doing really well with her patching of her good eye and you can tell that she is starting to use her bad eye more which is great. We are hopeful this next surgery goes well - keep her in your prayers.

Happy New Year to all. We had a wonderful and amazing 2009 and are looking forward to an even more amazing and blessed 2010.
